What is Depression?
Depression is a serious illness or mental health condition which affects the mentality of a person in worst ways possible. The person who earlier enjoys doing various activities in this condition lost interest in them. The feeling of sadness and isolation engulfed person’s life and a sort or negativity sprouted in their mind.
Depression can happen to anyone who has been subjected to loss of someone which the person loves or from other painful incidences in the life. Depression causes feelings of sadness and it can be a reason for many emotional and physical problems. Unfortunately, symptoms of depression aren’t as simple as feeling sad, loneliness or grief caused by a bitter life experience. It is more than that.
How Do I Know If I Have Condition of Depression?
There are various warning signs through which the depression manifests itself. Some of the most common symptoms of depression are listed below:
1. The feeling of Anger and Irritability:
The depressed person gets irritated easily on petty things or actions done by people around him. A personal comment which can be a joke might hurt his feeling and the person can also turn into violent or aggressive behavior.
In depression, a person has nostalgic feelings and the thoughts about the mistakes which he has done in the past and held himself responsible for them. He self-criticize his actions and feels sad or cries occasionally thinking about what could have done in the past. Excessive self-criticism can be a clear sign of depression.
3. Insomnia or Changes in Sleep Habits:
When the negative thought of despair pops into your brain – it is a tough time for sleeping. A person loses proper sleep during the acute depression. The person starts taking sleeping medication to get some sleep but further adds complication to the problem by fall victim to other mental disorders which occurs due to sleep imbalance.
4. Loss of Focus, Interest, and Decisions Making Ability:
The vicious cycle of having bad thoughts in mind prevents a person to focus on daily activities. The person loses interest or shows a little interest in regular tasks they typically enjoy, such as movies, sports and spending time with friends and family. It also affects the decision-making ability due to lack of energy almost every day.
5. The feeling of Restlessness and Lethargy:
A person with depression feels lazy and numb all the time. It’s common to have other mental health problems, such as anxiety, tiredness, fatigue, and loss of interest in daily activities.
6. Significant Weight Changes:
In depression, people lose interest in almost everything even in eating food and maintaining a diet plan. So, depressed people consume fewer calories that are needed which in turn cause a sudden weight loss.
They don’t eat a proper diet and also becomes susceptible to other diseases and improper brain function due to lack of nutrients in the brain which are needed to perform better.
7. Temporary Memory Loss:
The mind of the person who falls victim of depression is disturbed by some underlying problem so he could not focus on the tasks properly. A depressed person just does the task without giving much thought about it.
The memory of the person is also compromised who is suffering from depression as they are not paying attention to anything but being sad all day long.
8. Unexplained Aches and Pains:
This symptom of depression varies from person to person. Some people claim to suffer from body aches, headaches, joint pain, back pain, cramps and digestive problems during the depression phase. These symptoms are common but not everyone with depression will have the same ones.
